It looks like FIFA organizes the European player of the year award twice?

Ballon d;Or award

It is no longer news that Lionel Messi won the ballon d'or award for a record fifth time, making him the first ever player in the planet to bag the award for a
fifth time.

Well, congratulations to Messi!

But the point here is that it becomes glaring that if you don't play football in Europe, you can't win the most coveted award in football.

Why is it so?

Funny enough, last time I checked there are seven continents on the planet and we have continents like Africa, Asia and America who are so crazy about football and still got very talented and skillful players who I feel can win the award without necessarily playing in Europe.

Alot of people have idolized the UEFA champions league has the hallmark of football... Then why do we have other competitions like that of CAF and the Asian champions league. It is high time other continents begin to raise awareness of the presence of their competitions and make them matter.

The money factor is another thing that makes the European leagues very popular. It is high time other leagues stepped up their games and begin to encourage foreign investors to take the leagues to the pinnacle.

I dream of a Balloon d'Or ceremony where we would have the 3 finalists from different leagues and continents around the world.

Not just Spain and Europe.
